GETTING STARTED – Basic Excel Skills Course
There are thousands of features in Excel, and it has hundreds of ribbon (menu) commands. However, you can easily get lost in Excel once you open it. Also, understanding how to navigate Excel and access the features you need is one of the basic survival skills.

On the screen, there are five crucial areas – Basic Excel Skills Course
1.) Quick Access Toolbar: All of the essential tools can be found here. In addition, when you launch Excel for the first time, it has only three icons (Save, Undo, and Redo). Any Excel feature can be added to Quick Access Toolbar to make it easy to access from anywhere (hence the name).
2.) Ribbon: A ribbon is similar to an expanded menu. Firstly, the features of Excel are presented in a clear and easy-to-understand manner. The thousands of functionalities in Excel are organized into several ribbons. In order of importance, there are four ribbons: Home, Insert, Formulas, and Page Layout & Data.
3.) Formula Bar: This area is for entering calculations and formulas. Once you start building a formula, you will understand its importance.
4.) Spreadsheet Grid: This is where all your numbers, charts, and drawings will go. As a matter of fact, excel files can contain multiple sheets. Also, a spreadsheet grid displays only a few rows and columns of active spreadsheets. The scroll bars on the left and below can be use to see more rows or columns. Finally, access other sheets by clicking their names (or simply using the shortcut CTRL+Page Up or CTRL+Page Down).
5.) Status bar: The status bar displays what Excel is doing at any given moment. In general, when Excel creates a pivot report, calculates a formula, or records a macro, it indicates the status bar. The status bar also shows quick summaries of selected cells (count, sum, average, minimum, maximum). In fact, changing this can be done by right-clicking it and choosing which summaries to display.
